Many thanks for your comment. Regarding your question, I would say that visiting a hospital emergency department should only happen when you have an urgent and immediate need for medical care. For a cold or a cough, it would be best to visit a medical practice, as it is not urgent. Also, if you go to the hospital emergency department with a non-urgent problem, you will be given a low priority and may wait many hours to be seen by a doctor. You may find this government website useful, as it talks about types of medical support which are available. https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/
