Hi Dep. Thanks for your interesting comment. There is no landmark showing where they left from, as far as I know. There is however a statue of Burke and Wills which is normally at the corner of Swanston and Collins Sts. At the moment however, it is stored away while the rail tunnel is being built. Regarding Burke’s treatment of the aborigines, I have also read that he didn’t treat them with respect. I have read some of Wills’ expedition diaries and he had a much more respectful view of the aborigines. Interesting point that you have raised. Thanks again for your comment.

Thank you for bring me back to the heroic age. Only in the pre-communications era, when technology was not developed, l think it could have such a vivid and impressive story you have told. Even I as a Chinese was deeply moved by it, not to mention the Australians. After reading the pitiful story l fall into a reverie, if the expedition had a cellphone at that time, ……!
By the way, in Royal Park, Melbourne is there a landmark for commemorating the moment when Burke and his team set off across Australia from south to north around 150 years ago?
One author said in his essay THE BURKE AND WILLS EXPEDITION, “Although local Aboriginal people helped the explorers and gave them food, Burke didn’t trust them and often chased them away and fired his rifle at them.” what’s your opinion?
