I just read pod cast 155 Phar Lap which I thoroughly enjoyed. I was searching for an article detailing Phar Lap’s bloodline and your pod cast explains that and a whole lot more. Very interesting read.

Great to hear from you again. Thanks for your kind comments about the podcast. You have asked interesting questions. I am not an expert in horseracing, so I don’t really understand the process whereby specific weights are added to each horse. I believe this is called handicapping. It is to do with the aim of trying to even out the performance of all the horses. I guess this helps make the race more interesting for the race goers and those who bet on the race. In short, in this style of racing, the better the horse, the more weight it carries. Regarding views about whether horseracing is abusive, I can understand that some people do not agree with the whole idea. I can understand this view to some extent. However, in trying to portray Australian cultural life, I think it is important to talk about horseracing, as it is followed by so many Australians and has had a prominent place in our history – Phar Lap is a good example.

Haven’t left you some comments for a long time.
Another Australian best! Your long, hard and distinguished efforts have been showing me a clearer and more complete Australian spirit. Really appreciate your hard work.
Here have some questions. Why couldn’t Phar Lap also carry the saddle bags weighing 43.5kg as the winning horse did at the race which was controversial? Was that because the rules of the race so complicated? Some animal rights groups around the world believe that horse racing is abusive to horses. And how’s that idea sound to you?
