Hi Dep. Thanks for your very thoughtful comment. I agree that your question is an important one. I think that is why Ned Kelly received some much support at the time of his hanging and subsequently as his story has been told and retold.

Hi Rob,
Ned Kelly was indeed a convicted criminal, but what I’m thinking is why he did commit a lot crimes. And is it possible for a government or for a system that treats the disadvantaged more fairly to make people like Ned not or less commit crimes?

I’m appreciate your response and explain between “trying to murder a person” and “actually murdering a person” are totally different especially in legal contexts. Your explanation let my understand I should pay more attention when I read the article. I’m so glad to received your compliment and looking forward to your next podcast.

Many thanks for your message. I am pleased that you find my podcasts useful, and I am also pleased that you have tried the quiz. Well done for getting 9 out of 10. You have asked a good question about number 3. There is a difference between trying to murder a person, and actually murdering a person. If you try to murder a person, but are not successful, then the charge against you would be attempted murder. If you try to murder a person and are successful, then you would be charged with murder (not attempted murder). I hope that’s not too confusing. If I had changed question 3 so that it read – True or False? – ‘Ned’s mother was sent to gaol for trying to murder a policeman’, the answer would True. However, when I wrote the question, I left out the word ‘trying’, that’s why the number 3 is false.

Dear Rob,
I really learned a lot from your podcast and full of thankfulness when I write this letter.
I got 9 of 10 in quiz but I have no idea why the quiz 3th’s answer is false. According to article, “It seemed his mother was wrongly accused of trying to murder a policeman in April 1878, and she was sent to gaol for 3 years for something she never did. ” The question is “Ned’s mother was sent to gaol for murdering a policeman.” Although his mother didn’t murder a policeman but she was sent to jail for this accusation, so I thought the answer should be true, am I wrong?
